Shrugging off a lacklustre performance in the previous match, Dream A Dream outwitted Frank Anthony Public School 3-0 in the St Joseph’s Boys’ High School centenary inter-school hockey tournament for seniors at the KSHA Stadium on Saturday.
Ramu opened the account for Dreams in the 39th minute and skipper Arun successfully ended two identical solo runs in the 46th and 58th minutes.
Engineered by a tireless all-round effort by Arun and medio Prasanna in the midfield, the Dreams put the opposition defenders on their toes. Fed often by Arun and Prasanna, forward Ramu too was impressive in the right flank where most of the attacks were mooted.
After a goalless first session, Dreams pressed hard and the efforts bore fruit nine minutes in to the second half. Arun got past three defenders and passed the pall onto a waiting Ramu, who made no mistake.
Though Dreams had to rue numerous missed opportunities, Arun produced a stunner to beat FAPS custodian Carlos for his first goal and scored again in the dying minutes, this time with a reverse hit.
The result means the pool B is poised for an exciting finish to spot the semifinal berths, though St Germain are sitting on top with six points with another match to go. Dreams have three from two outings, while Sarala Birla Academy, who conceded a walkover in the last match, and FAPS are yet to open their account after one match each.
Earlier, in the Fr Eric Vaz memorial hockey tournament for juniors, Baldwin Boys’ High School trounced FAPS 8-0 to strengthen their chances of a berth in the last-four stage. Captain Anup did the star turn by slotting all the goals with four each in the either halves. He sounded the board in the 6th, 17th, 20th, 25th, 43rd, 50th, 52nd and 54th minutes.
