The chairman and two members of the Karnataka State Appellate Authority (Air and Water Act), on Saturday, inspected the peripheral road (connecting Mysore Road and Hosur Road to the proposed expressway to Mysore) to verify the allegations that the road was constructed deviating the sanctioned alignment, and also encroaching the portions of many lakes.
The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), after verifying the allegations, had withdrawn the Consent for Establishment (CFE) issued to Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises Ltd (NICE), which is constructing the road as part of the Bangalore-Mysore Expressway. Following this, the NICE filed an appeal before the Appellate Authority questioning the order of the KSPCB.
During the course of hearing , the authority concerned decided to inspect the road to verify the claims made by the KSPCB and the NICE.
During their inspection, Authority Chairman Justice H N Narayana, members Mr Thyagarajan and Mr Lawrence Surendra visited Gottigere, Hemmigepura, Varahasandra lake areas, Somapura, Chikkatoguru where the NICE is said to have violated the approved road alignment, besides destroying portions of the lakes.
Officials of the KSPCB, Public Works Department, environmentalist Leo Saldanha, Vijay Raghav of Anti-land Encroachment Forum, Gottigere grama panchayat representatives and others briefed the authority, during its long inspection. Meanwhile, the hearing on the appeal filed by the NICE before the Authority will continue on July 12.
