Former MP and the National President of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) Gulam Mohammed Banatwalla believed that the right preaching on Islam could check terrorism.
He was talking to scribes at a one-day convention of IUML, in Gurunanak Bhavan, on Saturday. He stated that the Glasgow incident which is pointing towards the involvement of Bangalore boys has been blown out of proportion. He said every instance must not be associated with Muslims or Islam.
“The charges against boys haven't not proved yet. They have been detained and they are under interrogation,” said Mr Banatwalla. Though it is pre-mature to comment on the incident at this stage, even if it is proved that the boys were involved, they cannot be the representatives of Indian Muslims”, he added.
The IUML national president took a dig on those people who are relating Islam with terrorism. “Islam is a religion of peace. Please, project Islam in a proper way. It must be realised that all terrorists are not Muslims as has been propagated over the years,” he said. He, however, advocated stern action against those who disturbed peace and harmony.
When asked about the measures to be taken by Muslim community to prevent children from choosing path of terror and violence, Mr Banatwalla said, there is a need to give right preaching on Islam as it is a religion of peace but not violence.
“Entire world should address to it, which gave birth to such situation,” said the leader pointing towards the disturbed situation in Afghanistan and Iraq due to the interference of western world into the internal affairs of these two countries.
