In the light of the release of Rs 54 crore for the all round development of the city, Sericulture Minister S Shivanna who represents the city has already directed the officials concerned to prepare a action plan. Both these developments are very important.
However, before earmarking funds for various development works, first many problems plauging the city should be addressed. If the action plan is readied before the basic problems are set right then it will befall the same problem like it happened earlier when money was released under the SDSMT plan.
It is not important how the money comes but it is more important to see that first the basic problems are tackled. Later, if the works are implemented only then will the all round development of the city and the development schemes and packages will have a meaning.
Talking about Tumkur itself, there is a lot of thinking that needs to be done before taking up the development work. The public are really angry that even the most basic problems have not been attended to. It is not that this anger of the public, the administration is not aware of. Because all the problems is something which hits the eye. Then why is it that there is this utter neglect is the question that begs answer.
In Tumkur there is no open drainage system at all. If one thinks deeply then there is no thought given to how a drainage has to be scientifically designed. The earlier elected representatives have completely ignored this issue.
When one talks about drainage here, it is just that the pourarkarmikas are sent to clean the drainage and the dump the garbage on the road, is all the ‘scientific’ knowledge they have.
The main roads like MG Road, SIT Main Road, Someshwarapura Main Road and other roads in commercial areas are stinking because of the clogged drains. Hence the earlier this problem is tackled the better it is.
Regarding the underground drainage (UGD), there are already lots of complaints pouring in. The unlicensed contractors are completely misusing the whole system by giving UGD connections which the people want to be implemented in a cost effective way, in a hapazard manner. The administration is also aware of what is going on. But again they have ignored it.
Even UGD connection has to be done in a very scientific way.
The public feel that if things have to move smoothly then the only way out is to see that in the interest of the future the development works be taken up and the elected representatives work hard to implement them.
