Prof Chandrappa Pujar, Hampi university gave a call to all loacl people’s representatives to strive towards making Gandhi’s dream of Gram Swaraj come true.
He was speaking at a joint convention of gram panchayath president, vice-president, members and employeesw at Gubbi Veranna rangamandiar in the City today.
He demanded that distribution of ration cards, allotment of houses for rural poor and providing drinking water programmes should be handed over to gram panchayaths.
Gram panchayaths should be sanctioned a minimum grant of Rs 25 lakh annually.
State government should take action to implement the 151 recommendations agreed upon in the national conference of rural development ministers, confirm the services of gram panchayath employees and sanction a monthly honararium of Rs 3000, Rs 2500 and Rs 1000 to president, vice-president and members respectively, he insisted.
State Raitha Sangh president Maruthi Manpade, people’s representatives from various taluks of the district, district president Ramachandar Sharma, Ratnamma, Syed Mujeeb and others participated.
