Employment exchanges across the State, which have become obsolete in the era of privatisation and liberalisation, have been forced to change their role and now slowly turning into coaching, training and resource centres.
Till recently the district employment exchanges would only register the names of unemployed youth, renew registration and sponsor them in the event of any employment opportunities.
However the fast shrinking of employment opportunities in the public sector, the unemployed youth are not finding it any use to register their names here. The number of unemployed youths registering their names has come down drastically.
They are, today, offering relevant information to unemployed youth and conducting coaching for competitive examinations.
This would become a boon for students who cannot afford the prohibitive cost of coaching and training given by the private establishments.
The State government directed all the 27 district employment exchanges to arrange for training sessions by experts, for all competitive examinations.
Gulbarga district employment exchange has already initiated steps in this regard and has been holding training for CET and other competitive examinations albeit on a low scale.
It may pick up in the months to come. Recently it had organised a free training for 60 candidates appearing for the competitive examinations for the recruitment of high school teachers.
The locally available resource persons took part in the training sessions which are normally conducted from 3pm to 6 pm.
M Basavaraj of Mallikarjun Kharge Degree College coaches candidates in social science and general Kannada while chief of the Raj Coaching Institute of Competitive examinations Rameshkumar Jatti and Prakash Desai are training candidates for aptitude test.
District Employment Officer Bakkappa Bazar said each resource person would be paid an honourarium of Rs100 per class.
In the coming days, it has been planned to organise every month 10-day training which will include coaching for IAS, IPS, KAS aspirants also.
In the district employment exchange here 83209 candidates including 16788 women have registered their names seeking employment.
