The town police locked up a Nursing College at Dasavala Road in Madikeri which was being run without obtaining permission from the Karnataka State Nursing Board on Friday.
Police also confiscated certain documents related to the college.
It is said that a person was running a Nursing College under the name of Bharath Samaja Sevaka Sangha at Virajpet. But later he was forced to write a bond stating that he will not run any nursing college in front of police in the backdrop of public opposition for lack of infrastructure in the college.
But the same person, had set up a Nursing College in Madikeri under the name of Bharat Samaja Sevaka Sangha and was collecting Rs 12,000 as donation from each student.
Karnataka State Nursing Board had cancelled the recognition to the College as the College had failed to pay the registration and examination fees.
Moreover, question papers and examination hall tickets have been denied for the college.
Meanwhile, he had obtained permission from Karnataka Health Education Centre after depositing a sum of Rs 1,000 to start course in first aid. He had also printed own question papers and distributed it to students. But, to start any Nursing College, approval from the State Nursing Council is indispensable. He had not obtained the permission from the same.
Realising the problems faced by the students, Cauvery Sene had filed a complaint with the district administration on the fake nursing college.
In this backdrop, the district administration initiated action against fake nursing college and subsequently, town police Sub-inspector Chandraiah raided the nursing college on Dasavala Road. The police also seized receipt of Rs 5,000 which was received as fee from a girl for admission and investigations are on.
The institute head has been asked to produce the documents related to permission given to the institute to set up the college.
Mr Chandraiah said that a report will be sent to the district administration.
