Frames of their minds
Aditi Sharma
The photography exhibition, organised by Bangalore Photography Club, was its second annual photography exhibition following the success of the first exhibition one held in 2006.

Bangalore had yet another photography exhibition at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan from June 8 till - 10.  The exhibition, organised by Bangalore Photography Club, was its second annual photography exhibition following the success of the first exhibition one held in 2006.

Categories
The exhibition had categories like ‘Abstract’, ‘People and Street’, ‘Wildlife and Nature’, and ‘Black and White’. The participants included both professional and amateur hobby photographers.
The photographs left viewers wondering whether they were photographs or paintings. For some photographers, it was all about pattern and colours and for others, it was the moment when the real expressions and emotions were captured.
Like Deepika Nagabhushan, one of the artists explained, “A photograph may appeal to you but not to me, it’s all in the mind”. The name of the exhibition also suggested the same. Mayur, another participant explained that for him, it’s the moment and the emotion which he tries to capture in his photos.
The exhibition had 80 photographs in all, displayed by 32 artists, who are from different walks of life and are pursuing photography either professionally or as a hobby.

How they started
The Bangalore Photography Club started off as an online group with four members who started meeting each other to discuss their common passion — photography. Soon other people joined in and the numbers grew to over 500.
The best part of their group, they say, is the diversity of expertise that they bring to the forum.

A good mix
A variety in interests pursued by members of the club is what gets the club buzzing with activity. Everyone is open to learn new ideas from each other. They follow a practice of professionals in the club mentoring amateurs in finer aspects of photography.
Said Deepika, “We are here to learn from each other and to build a platform that each photographer can benefit from. In the process, we exchange knowledge, learn new things, share experiences, appreciate, and critically analyse works.”
