Slamming the Nitish Kumar government for “attacks” on Dalits, backward classes and minorities in Bihar, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on Sunday called for unity among the socially marginalised communities and the progressive upper castes for achieving social justice.
“We are concerned about the rise of communal forces once again in the state and all secular parties should unitedly fight these forces,” the party National Executive said in a resolution.
RJD chief Lalu Prasad, his cabinet colleagues in the UPA government, party MPs, MLAs and hundreds of party functionaries attended the meeting at the Parliament Annexe and demanded the withdrawal of “anti-people” police and municipal corporation laws recently enacted in Bihar.
The RJD accused the BJP and its sister organisations for attempting to “destroy the pluralistic culture” by dubbing the Muslims as “ISI agents and terrorists”.
The resolution also supported quota for the OBCs in elite educational institutions and sought early implementation of the Sachar Committee recommendations to uplift the minorities.
