The Centre, on Thursday, gave formal approval to as many as 23 proposals to set up Special Economic Zone (SEZ) including two in Karnataka.
Tata Group’s multi-product SEZ at Gopalpur in Orissa but deferred decision on Mukesh Ambani-promoted Navi Mumbai SEZ.
Two from State
These 23 proposals were given formal approval by the Board of Approval (BOA) of SEZ—the single window clearing agency—at its meeting chaired by Commerce Secretary & BOA Chairman G K Pillai. The proposal of Salarpuria Properties Private Limited to set up a SEZ in the Information Technology and IT Enabled Services (ITES) sector at Sonenahali Village in Bangalore East Taluk was given formal approval by the BOA. The SEZ would be spread over an area of 14.54 hectares.
The other SEZ project from Karnataka, Karle Infrastructure Projects, which will be in IT/ITES and BPO sector, would be set up in Nagavara village in Bangalore North Taluk spread over an area of 10 hectares. Mr Pillai, said the decision on Mukesh Ambani-promoted Navi Mumbai SEZ project was deferred as BOA was still awaiting views from the Maharashtra government and the developers.

“We are waiting for comments from the developers and the state government on the report of the revenue department,” he said.
