Rolling Stones, Mark Knopfler, Sting, Bryan Adams, Deep Purple and now Aerosmith — over the last two years, the Taj West End has hosted all these legends. They are now gearing up to give the rock band Aerosmith a grand Indian welcome, complete with a traditional aarti, and gifting of peta (traditional headgear of Karnataka) and shawls. Royal guards on horses will escort the band to the presidential suite to witness Dollukunita – a folk dance form of Karnataka.
The Taj West End has earmarked the luxurious suites where the band will stay. Lead singer Steven Tyler will be staying at the Tata Presidential suite. Personalised touches have been specially incorporated in each of the suites. Their dressing gowns in earthy shades of maroon, brown and orange – made of Mysore raw silk with personalised initials. Each suite will have personalised stationery in gold lettering. All linen — their bathrobes, hand towels and napkins — will be personalised too.
The suite
Steve Tyler's suite will also have Havana cigars, a book on India and a book on Indian music as he plays many instruments. Joe Perry is left-handed and his room is customised to suit his needs. Tom Hamilton requires a special bed — he is over 6'1", and lawn tennis racquets will be placed in his room as he enjoys the game.
Executive Chef, Taj West End, Sandeep Kachroo has designed a special menu for the band. Says he, "The bands make Bangalore rock, but we make them sway to our food." Chef Kachroo has also arranged for nine varieties of mangoes, besides bananas, berries, ice apples, mud apples and litchees.
Evening turndowns have Indian themes like Amrakhand cheesecake, Gulab Jamun brulee, Gajar Halwa Milliefifuellie apart from single estate chocolates. The "Taste of India" menu will include local delights like pandi curry, erachi barthade (lamb) and kodi vepadu (Andhra speciality).
"This is the first time the band is playing in India. We are doing our best to make their stay in Bangalore an event they won't ever forget," assures Area Director and General Manager, Taj West End, Mohan Kumar.
A rollicking time
The two hour long concert would bring out some of the best compositions from the bands 33 year history including “Looks like a Lady”, “Livin' on the edge”, “Walk this Way”, “Sweet Emotion”, “Falling in Love”, “I Don't want to miss a thing”, “Crazy”, “Angel”, “Dream On” and “Janie's got a gun”.
The India concert is part of Aerosmith's 2007 World Tour, kicked off on April 12 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, the tour will mark the bands first performance outside North America and Japan in eight years. For the first time rock fans will be treated to the visual ecstasy of a huge LED screen spanning at an astounding size of 34X17ft across the stage.
And miles of cabling, state-of-the-art lighting, and acoustics that add to the panache.
Lead vocalist Steven Tyler known for his energetic and acrobatic performance has special fabricated ramps that extend about 56 ft into the audience, for an ultimate viewing experience.

Gates to the concert would open by 5:30 pm sharp. Tickets are priced at Rs.1800, Rs.1200 and would also be available at the ticketing booth at the venue. The approaching showers would surely make this one a refreshing concert.
