Alumnus of the CKP college, Appanna N Pujari who exhibited before the students (May 28 to 31), brings quite a difference. Rather than confronting himself and the reality around, he goes in for what appeals to the general public. His inspiration has always been traditional southern mythological painting. Earlier he used to do smallish works on paper that in a cartoonish way contemporised the old idiom while he depicted critically social phenomena on the present world or tried to make deities closer to current sensibilities.
The artist paints largish canvases with inconographically quite correct hieratic gods surrounded by multitudes of lesser mythic characters.
