“Colours of Silence, Glimpse of India” was the show of paintings by R Venkatesh (CKP, May 25 to 29). Although one can appreciate the positive role art must be having for the hearing-impaired person, it is difficult not to notice the conventional and inferior sources the artist draws on.
Equipped with an evident technical ability, with equal naivety he shifts from somewhat wooden realistic portraiture to sugary-smooth, bejewelled ethnicity over images of well-endowed, smiling ladies.
