Declaring the marriage of a 22-year-old youth with his divorced step-mother as “null and void”, Muslim clerics have said such relationships will be treated as “rape” and the culprits will be punished as per Islamic law. The youth, identified as Shokin of Gangeru village, married his divorced step-mother in a Haryana court after eloping from the village.
In a ruling, mufti of Islamic seminary Dar-ul-Uloom, Maulana Ahsan Qasmi said that the marriage was illegal and ruled that the relationship will be treated as rape according to the Shariah. He asked the couple to immediately break the relationship to avoid harsh punishment.
