After recording the statements of police officers, the State Women’s Commission on Monday adjourned proceedings in the case pertaining to the sexual harassment charge against MLA Renukacharya, to June 27.
The commission, however, did not record former MLA D G Shantanagowda’s statement as “certain relevant documents are not available”.
StateWomen’s Commission Chairperson Pramila Nesargi once again directed complainant Jayalakshmi to appear before the commission in person.
She also decided to issue summons to officials of a mobile company as they had failed to furnish records relating to a phone conversation.
Jayalakshmi’s advocate Anil Sommanna urged the SWC to stop the proceedings on the ground that the issue was pending before the National Women’s Commission. However, this was rejected on the ground that the NWC had not issued notices to the SWC till date. Ms Nesargi also observed that the NWC could not intervene “as we are already seized of the matter”.
Mr Renukacharya did not turn up due to some engagements, but his advocate Kalyan Basavaraj appeared on his behalf.
Later Mr Shantanagowda told reporters neither he nor his party was backing Jayalakshmi “as it’s a personal matter concerning Renukacharya”.
Mr Renukacharya decided to ‘help’ Jayalakshmi “only after she told me she was unable to bear the torture meted out to her.”
