Stylish and eco friendly — that is Jute Cottage for you. Jute Cottage is holding a jute extravaganza at its outlets in Bangalore till the June 14 to celebrate World Environment Day. With logos such as ‘Jute is cute’, ‘Add Jute to your life’ and ‘Say No to plastic and Yes to Jute’, it hopes to lure people to make jute a staple in their accessory collection.
At Jute Cottage, you will be tempted by the quirky designer jute handbag collection with sequins, butterfly motifs and Zari borders. For those with a more sedate taste, there are classy bags in various hues of brown. The bags are affordable and are priced between Rs 50 and Rs 300. The Shantiniketan leather wallets are spectacular with intricate motifs and are priced at Rs 160. They also carry a line of jewellery in jute and terracotta that comprises of neckwear, bangles and earrings in simple designs. “I am a Jute Cottage loyalist. I buy a lot of bangles from here and match them with my outfits,” exclaims Madhu, a student of St Joseph’s College.
Artifacts in terracotta are interesting, especially the miniature pots with tribal figures painted on them are remarkable. The earthen pots, of rather unusual shape, come in colours of white, brown and black. Terracotta masks of the sun god, king and queen and various other tribal figures are unique.The dainty ceramic jewellery boxes, hand painted with floral patterns are a steal at Rs 150. Wooden boxes with elaborate brass carvings can be yours for Rs 250. Lanterns crafted out of coloured glass are charming and cost around Rs 220. Jute coaster range between Rs 10 and Rs 40 and jute mats are priced between Rs 10 and Rs 30.
“I adore the stuff of Jute Cottage for they are unique, yet affordable. The things sold here are ethnic and are not easily found elsewhere,” gushes Deepa, a regular shopper at Jute Cottage.
