Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy will lay the foundation stone for the modernisation of Bhadra canal project, on June 13, near Shiramagonadanahalli said District in-Charge Minister S A Raveendranath.
As many as 25,000 farmers are expected to participate in the event, he added.
Speaking to reporters he said, Deputy Chief Minister Yediyurappa, Minister for water Resources K S Eshwarappa, local MLAs and farmers will participate in the function.
Around Rs 780 crores project is being implemented in 12 packages. Moreover, water will not be released in the canal till December, he said.
Around 10 hectare land has already benefited from the first stage of the project and the remaining 40 hectare land will get water, if the project is completed, he said.
In the first stage of the project 15meter dyke is collapsed, but there is no threat to the project.
Contractors will repair the dykes as 80% of payment has already been given to them, he said.
Mechanical companies will be doing the modernisation work of the canal in the second stage. Contractors should finish the project which has been divided into 12 packages before 3 years. They must give assurance with regard to the quality of the canal, said Irrigation Department Executive Engineer Odo Gangappa.
If they fail to finish the project in time, serious action will be taken against them, he added.
MLA M P Renukacharya, leaders Anaberu Jeevana Murthy, Maheshwarpapa, D S Shivashankar and others were present in the press meet. They said they have a hope that the work would be completed on time which would help farmers of the region.
