7 years jail to sandalwood smugglers
Shimoga,dhns: First Fast Track Court has awarded 7 years imprisonment to sandalwood smugglers on Monday.
Range Forest Officer of Tirthahalli had arrested Kalim and Ataullah for illegally transporting sandalwood on July 14, 2003. After hearing both sides, Fast Track Court has awarded 7 years imprisonment and slapped fine of Rs 50,000 each on the duo. Ms Rama Gubbi argued for the prosecution.
Man arrested for stealing
Shimoga,dhns: Police have arrested a person on Monday, on charges of stealing Rs 3.21 lakh from the firm in which he was employed.
Tejas, owner of Pioneer Poultry and Hatcheries in Vidyanagar area of the city had lodged complaint against Kamala Kannanmurthy, supervisor in the firm of stealing Rs 3.21 lakh. In the complaint, Tejas had alleged that Kannanmurthy had taken the amount in the office locker by using duplicate keys. Acting on the complaint, Kannanmurthy was arrested and has also confessed of the crime, sources said.
