The district administration will organise a chemical disaster mock drill at MCF and NMPT on June 13 between 9 am and 1.30 pm, said HQA A G Bhat.
Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday, he said National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) will monitor the activities. The entire process will be videographed.
Explaining the procedure of the mock drill, Mr Bhat said that as soon as the MCF authorities realise the Ammonia leakage in the plant, they will inform Deputy Commissioner, who in turn will declare off site emergency. “The mock drill is intended to know our strengths and weaknesses in managing disaster,” he added.
Mr Bhat said that as many as 13 departments will be involved in the drill. They include revenue, police, homeguards, RTO, publicity, health, MCC, BSNL, district Fire Officer, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF, Pune), Zilla Panchayat, HAM operators and IMA.
He said Disaster Management Institute (Bhopal) Director Dr Paraksh Dubey, NDMA Training and Capacity Buildings Specialist Brig Khanna, Technical Co-ordinator Dr Rakesh Sharma, CII Representative Surendra Nath, NDMA Senior Research Officer Raman Chawla will participate.
He said as a part of drill, an Incident Command Post (ICP) will be set up at Scouts Bhavan and a site control room at Kuloor. A relief camp will be set up at Kalavar village. In the mock drill, we will assume that the affected areas will be Thokur and Kenjar and as many as 150 people will be evacuated.
Primary Health Centre, Surathkal, Wenlock Hospital, KMC, Attavar and A J Hospital will participate in the mock drill.
Ten observers have been appointed to observe the different functions, he added.
