The centenary celebrations of St Lawrence Higher Primary School in Bondel will be held on June 14 at school premises.
Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday, School Joint Secretary Rev Fr Antony Serrao said the school was started in 1908 by Rev Fr Frank Pereira of Milagres Church under the direction of Pascal Mascarenhas at a small house in Bangeruseeme. Later the school was shifted to Haaluthota.
The next land mark in the school’s history was the shifting of the school premises to Church compound at Bondel in 1917.
At present the school has 18 teachers imparting quality education to 675 students. The school comes under Catholic Education Board. The valedictory of the centenary celebrations will be held on January 24, 2008. Fr Serao said as a part of the centenary celebrations, the school has planned to organise a science exhibition and to organise various competitions for the students.
The school has also planned to honour the old students who have excelled in their life and to bring out a souvenir to commemorate the centenary celebrations.
As a part of the celebration, a fulfledged computer lab will be set up in the school, he added.
The centenary celebrations will be inaugurated by Catholic Education Board Secretary Rev Fr Wilson V D’Souza while St Lawrence Church Parish Priest Rev Fr Antony Serrao will preside.
BEO Walter H D’Mellow and Corporator Hilda Alva will be the chief guests on the occasion.
