A programme to inaugurate the city’s second stage underground drainage work for which Rs 9.29 crore had been released was organised, here on Sunday.
The cutouts and banners of the local legislator was plastered all over the V P extension, in the light of the leader inaugurating the programme.
However, legislator Alangur Srinivas who was to inaugurate the programme bowed to the pressure of the party workers and without participating in the programme, left for Bangalore citing some urgent work.
The Congress workers brought to the notice of Srinivas that the JD (S) workers had condemned the stand of legislator K Srinivasgowda for posing that it was a Congress programme.
In a statement JD (S) taluk unit president Banakanahalli Nataraj has said that it was for this reason that Srinivas went off in a huff.
Taking exception to the way Congress tried to take credit for the programme, he said after the coalition government came to power the money had been released for the second stage underground drainage work. But the way the legislator is reflecting that it is the Congress party’s work is to mislead the people, he charged.
When Srinivasagowda himself was the minister why did he not release the funds for the project, he asked. Even the Yargolu scheme was introduced during his period. When his government was in power let alone presenting it in the budget, it did not even come up for discussion. Srinivasagowda has failed in this and he should not forget it, said Nataraj. Further, he was upset with the way Dharam Singh was given credit for releasing funds to the city municipal council. The legislators can only come with schemes but they cannot implement or release the funds, he said.
