For the urbane
Perin Ilavia

The autumn/winter collection presented at Tranoi salon by Abraham & Thakore, and at the Wills Lifestyle Fashion Week in Delhi, will be on the rack in Bangalore before winter arrives.

David Abraham, Rakesh Thakore and Kevin Nigi, explore distinctive traditional flavour with modern energy in their ensembles, with a vision to reach to urban consumers in India.

Working with basic elements, they find an unexpected way of upgrading and innovating an old designs.
The mainstay of their garments are the western and far eastern markets, with the focus clearly on western wear.

Savvy urbanite

A whole generation has gone by without much care for western clothes; the Indian salwar-kurta was in vogue then. Today’s urbanite is savvy and updated on fashion trends from the international circuit.

The designers have to be on their toes, changing their pallete and fabric to suit the climate and environment of the cities they retail in.

At the preview of the collection, displayed by models from Prasad Bidapa’s stables, an earthy brown silk dress with white flower applique work, and a red jacket with black applique work, caught everyone’s eye.

A threadwork jacket with white trimmings and frayed shoulder  seams and collar, was a head turner too. A bold striped black and white handloom Duster Coat, with Shantung pants, that was showcased, is definitely for the daring.

If you alternate the pants with a trench coat worn over a striped embroidered close fitting top, it will spell ‘chic’.
For the warm summer in Bangalore, check the spring/summer collection showcased pastel greens, off whites, stark whites, meadow pinks merging to shades of pink, turquoise and green combinations with pintucks, tassels and prints.

The evening wear dresses in sensuous black will make even a reluctant person take the plunge and splurge on it.

A fusion of materials — crepe, gorgette, crushed silk, chiffon, cottons and linens — the garments have no embellishments.

The flow, design and silhouette provide  for the designer’s signature of a creative exploration in simple, comfortable and distinctive dressing.

At Atmosphere, on Vittal Mallya Road.
