New card system for SCs/STs mooted
DH News Service,Mangalore:

The State Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Commission will recommend a card system for the benefit of the SC/ST communities, in its interim report to be submitted to the government soon.
According to this system, each SC and ST family will be issued a card, which will serve as a ready document for them to avail themselves of the benefits of schemes of any government department.
Commission Chairman Nehru Cha Olekar told reporters, after concluding a grievances hearing meet at the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Wednesday, that the system would help decentralisation of government schemes, enabling more people to benefit from the schemes.
At the grievances hearings he convened at seven districts so far, he came across a number of complaints that only a few ‘experienced’ people were availing the benefits of various government schemes, while most others were “keeping themselves off the benefits.”
“In the new system, each card will contain details of all members of the family and the schemes they benefit under various departments.”
“This will help the officials to identify those who apply for certain schemes repeatedly,” he said.
The interim report will be submitted to the government by the end of July, Mr Olekar added.
