National bird under threat
DH News Service,Hagari Bommanahalli:

India was proud to declare tiger as national animal for its majesty. As a mockery, reckless killing of the animal proves our concern.
Here is another testimony for our concern toward national bird peacock. Many migrant vendors from Uttar Pradesh are roaming in cities and towns, including Hagari Bommanahalli, with artifacts made up of peacock feathers. On inquiry, it was revealed that hundreds of peacocks are caught in Uttar Pradesh and are left free after plucking feathers. Though they are not killed instantly, it is end of life for the harmless birds as they can fly anymore and fall prey to dogs and other hunting animals.
There are instances of mass killing of the bird in Karnataka too. There are poachers of the bird for its flesh in Hospet, Sandur, Bellary and Torangal mining areas.  Killing of the bird is unabated in Kanavihalli forest area of the taluk for meagre economic gain.
Environmentalists of the region says that awareness is must to curb such killing. To discourage the menace the people should not buy products made of such precious animals and birds.
Some have passion to kill animals and others cruelty. Such attitude could be changed through effective campaigns. There should be stringent law to punish the culprits and officials concerned should act properly to curb heinous killings, they said.
