When the MCC meeting was going on, a group of Bajrang Dal members arrived at the visitors gallery and shouted slogans against some corporators for more than 20 minutes. But the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Commissioner continued the meeting as if nothing has happened!
When contacted the Mayor after the meet, she said “usually the Council Secretary is in-charge of looking after any such incidents.” “Since the Council Secretary was absent for the meet, we sent a word to the police,” she said.
The protesters stopped shouting slogans at the end of Council meet. When the police reached the MCC, the protesters had already left the venue.
During the protest, the protesters displayed several placards which read “save Nandigudda cremation ground,” “anti-Hindu MCC” and “anti-Hindu corporators.”
They flayed the corporators for “their move to sell Nandigudda creamtion ground.” However, when contacted, sources in the Mangalore City Corporation said that the Deputy Commissioner had asked the MCC to issue a ‘No objection certificate’ for transfer of a portion of land in the Nandigudda cremation ground. Accordingly, the MCC had given only a NOC. “In fact, the MCC has nothing to do with the claims of the protesters,” the sources added.
