Mr B Janardhan Reddy, MLC, who accused Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy of having collected Rs 150 crore from iron ore mine owners, has been charged with indulging in illegal mining, amassing huge wealth and evading tax.
He has also been accused of filing false declarations at the time of filing his nomination for election to the Upper House.
In a complaint filed before Lokayukta Justice N Santosh Hegde on Friday, President of Karnataka Gandhi Memorial Trust, Dr Ho Ve Srinivasaiah has sought an investigation against Mr Reddy besides initiating criminal proceedings against him.
The Lokayukta is understood to have decided to serve a notice on Mr Reddy within a week.
Flaw in affidavit
In the complaint, Dr Srinivasaiah alleged Mr Reddy had not given complete details about his property while filing nomination.
Moreover, there were some flaws in the affidavit filed.
“So a suitable inquiry should be conducted and criminal proceedings be initiated against Mr Reddy”, the complainant has urged the Lokayukta.
Further, Dr Srinivasaiah stated that as per the details furnished by Mr Reddy, the latter did not own much property at the time of filing the nomination.
Pending decision
“But today, he is claiming that he owns property worth crores of rupees. He has amassed this much wealth by indulging in illegal mining and also cheating the State exchequer”, he has stated in the complaint.
Meanwhile, Justice Hegde when contacted by Deccan Herald, said that the legal wing of the Lokayukta was examining the complaint. “After it comes to me, I decide whether to conduct an inquiry or not”, Mr Hegde stated.
