The valedictory of the six-day State level street play camp was held at the Bandipur National Park on Saturday.
Plays on the importance of the Right to Information Act and gender equality were staged by artistes who had assembled at the National Park for the camp on the occasion.
In his presidential address, Information Commissioner K V R Tagore spoke on the role the Right to Information (RTI) plays in fulfilling the objectives of a democratic society. He gave instances of how armed with the weapon of the right to know the functioning of the official machinery, the scourges of corruption and misappropriation of public money can be eradicated. Hitherto, officials could hide under the cover of the provision of secrecy of the decisions taken by them, he noted.
The Information Commissioner lauded the efforts of the artistes (mostly amateurs), Basavalingaiah, the director of the plays and his team. Department director Vishukumar and noted photographer G R Thippeswamy were present. Ismail Gonal Guru provided music for the plays, organised by the Information department.
