Health Minister R Ashok on Sunday revealed that 60 cases of Chikungunya have been identified in Mysore district and added that the government was taking all the necessary measures to check the spread of the disease.
He was talking to reporters on the sidelines of a programme on Sunday after the distribution of 44 ambulances to trauma care centres.
The disease in Mysore has been identified as Chikungunya through preliminary tests, but further tests are also being done, he said.
The Health Department has also supplied the necessary tablets and medicines to Government dispensaries, he said.
The District Health Officers should set up special teams of doctors to monitor the situation.
The government has asked the district administration to ensure that all preventive measures are taken.
Fifty fogging machines for each district have been distributed and Mysore district has been given an additional 25 machines, he said.
Bill planned
Mr Ashok said the State Government was planning to pass a bill to make it mandatory for the nurses passing out of government colleges to work for two years in government hospitals.
The bill would be placed in the Assembly session in July, he added.
ICUs
While the Legislative Assembly has passed a bill to check unauthorised nursing homes and private hospitals, an Act will be brought in this regard, after the bill is passed in the Legislative Council, he said.
In an effort to set up ICUs in government hospitals, K C General Hospital and Jayanagar Hospital will get new ICUs at the cost of Rs 1 crore each, he added.
Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa said he had given directions to the Health Department to take steps towards setting up mobile clinics in rural areas, on this occasion.
The government plans to set up one trauma centre every 30 km along the National Highways.
In the next three years, the government will spend Rs 300 crore on this project, he explained.
The State Government will also set up 275 Primary Health Centres. In the first stage, Rs 25 lakh will be released to each centre, he said.
A 100-bed hospital at the cost of Rs 30 crore will be set up on Bangalore-Kolar Highway and there are also plans to set up similar hospitals on Kanakapura Road and Mysore Road, he said.
