Drinking water crisis, a daily ordeal
H H Dayanand, DH News Service, Kolar:
The Ammerahalli tank which used to provide water to certain parts of the city has dried up in Kolar.

There are no rains this time. The tanks are all dried up in the region. As  a result the ground water table is depleting by the day and the people in Kolar  left with no drinking water.
The Ammerahalli tank which used to provide water to certain parts of the city has dried up. Also, the  water level in the Kolarammana tank is decreasing by the day. Moreover, the bore wells that are dug in the region to meet the water requirements are also unable to contain the severe water crisis faced by the people in the region.
However, the population is on the rise. Moreover, the water needs of the people needs to be met according to the available population. Also, however hard the city corporation people are striving to meet the water needs of the people they are unable to fulfil the requirements.
There are nearly 193 borewells in the city. Among them 31 borewells have dried up and in the remaining borewells the water level has decreased. However, now though the city water requirements is being met with the help of 162 borewells the city is still unable to overcome the shortage of drinking water. Thus, everyday the people in the Kolar city can be seen struggling to fetch drinking water, the most essential of the basic needs.
Mahalakshmi Layout, S S Makhan, Shaeen Sha Nagar, Bank Colony, Pete Chamanahalli, Jayanagar, Karanji Katte and other regions in the city are facing acute drinking water crisis.

Tankers
However, in order to solve the water shortage, tankers are being used to meet water requirements of atleast some of the areas in the city. In order to meet the water woes of the city everyday 16 tankers are used to provide 128 load tanker water. Despite all these it has not been possible to meet the water crisis in the city.
Moreover, in order to contain the crisis 28 more borewells need to be dug out. But in order to meet this requirement there is paucity of funds.
Thus, if more borewells are dug then the water crisis in the city can be solved atleast temporarily, informed the city corporation officials.
