Problems aplenty at Shirwada
Karwar, DH News Service:

Lack of infrastructure, letting sewage water into well, improper roads, encroachments, underdeveloped Bangarappa Nagar and other heaps of problems were unfolded at a Janaspandana programme  held here under the presidentship of Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Shivanand Murthy on Saturday.

People who unveiled various problems one by one, charged officials in the presence of zilla panchayat chief officer with regard to solve their problems. The district administration of Uttara Kannada has awakened after the visit of Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy. As a result it has started organising janaspandana (public interaction) programmes at district and taluk levels highlight problems and find solutions to them.

The interaction programme was held at Shirwada open-air theatre. Though there were only 180 houses, the problems were aplenty. Agriculture is the main occupation in this village. Paddy is the major crop and other various crops are also grown. But the problem is with the salty sea water which gets mixed sweet water resulting in less yield.  So, the concerned authorities should take action to prevent sea water from entering farmland by constructing protection wall, the people demanded. With this, nearly 30 acres of land will be spoiled.

The public dust-bin near the CMC office and the toilet pits were not proper. Apart from that, these waste water was also entering a well and causing lot of pollution, they said.

Encroachment: Many places including the Bangarappa Nagar in Shirwada  which were encroached should be regularised. Even the poor and people coming from far should be included under the housing schemes. The main road in Bangarappa Nagar and basics such as toilets, water supply should be ensured.  Speaking on the occasion, ZP CEO said that as many as 110 grievances were received against 180 houses in Shirwada.
