The traffic police has put up slogans all over Brigade Road, warning people to drive safe. Some of them are quite catchy too. But how many of those who drive on the City roads really follow all that is being said.
The slogans at best can only provide humour for pedestrians walking on the road, for none of those driving on Brigade Road has the time to look at them, leave alone read or follow them.
Those inching their way on the crazy road, are irritable and road rage is just a honk away, as they avoid pedestrians crossing willy nilly. Other drivers suddenly stop in front of them to dislodge passengers on to the road, and then all the other slow drivers looking out for parking and then there are those ‘double parkers,’ waiting for someone to pull out of a parking slot.
Honestly, does anyone ever look at these slogans, however catchy they are. Then there are slogans at Cubbon Park, entreating walkers and others using the park not to feed the stray dogs. But what is amusing to find is that those feeding the dogs continue to do so, and right under the hoardings too.
There is one hoarding near the Bandstand, and all the strays in Cubbon park seem to converge there and so do the compulsive feeders. Hmm, I wonder why the strays gather there at the Bandstand, is it to listen to the live music on Sundays??
Perhaps those of you going to the RTO or any other government office would have noticed that the slogan - “Don’t spit here,” is meant as a signal for pan chewers to spray their spit all over the wall around the slogan. The same goes for “Don’t litter here,” too, as all the world’s garbage is to be found there. “Don’t stick bills,’ is another slogan that stickers of bills must necessarily violate for you will find a film poster stuck right under the slogan.
“A/C Car, No Hand Signal,” is another interesting slogan we continue to see on car bumpers, although drivers of all AC cars and their passengers love to throw out their hands out of their windows and wave signals to those behind them.
Probably the most interesting yet is on the bumpers of lorries. “Horn OK please.” But has anyone dared to honk at a lorry driver and get away without him trying to push you off the road??
So why does anyone write slogans? Its your guess as much as mine!
