Paul Dhawale, retired principal: After ten male Presidents it is better to have a woman President. I think it is very encouraging and has done justice for the weaker sex. No doubt she is a puppet in the hands of her party but from her background I feel she can be a good President. We have women Presidents in other countries, only in India it seems a big issue.

Meera, student: It is high time that an Indian woman become a President. I think it is a good choice but I personally would have preferred a woman who was not from the sphere of politics. I think there is too much focus on gender rather than talking about the capabilities. Of course, I am sure she will be good and become an inspiration to other upcoming women.

Akram, consultant counsellor: If a woman becomes the President, it will be great for the country. It will be the best thing to happen for the weaker sex. I am sure that it will improve the chances of introducing the Women’s Reservation Bill. I have confidence in her that whatever she does will be in the best interest of the country.

Nina Soni, housewife: I feel women are equal to men and it is high time that they start occupying some of the top positions in the country. If a woman is at that position then she will be able to understand the problem of women better. I feel that a woman President can take care of the country very well.
