A 16-year-old youth allegedly murdered a boy and then hid the body under a bed in his house in suburban Dindoshi, police said on Sunday.

The teenager, whose name could not be disclosed because of his age, was arrested for killing nine-year-old Parth Panchal. The boy was missing since Friday and his parents had approached the police to find him.

On Sunday, the youth, who is known to the missing child and lives in a building opposite to the victim’s house, allegedly told his mother that he had murdered Panchal and hidden the body under his bed. The teenager told his mother about the murder after he was questioned about the smell coming from his room.

The police were subsequently informed about the incident by the boy’s parents. The 16-year-old boy was undergoing psychiatric treatment for the past few weeks and may have committed the murder in a fit of rage, police sources said.
