The tussle is still on between the vehicle dealer and the Road Transport Authority. On the one hand, the RTA alleges that the dealers are charging a heavy price for registering vehicles while on the other, the dealers claim that the allegation is not true. The tussle leaves the purchaser of the vehicle in a quandary.
Deccan Herald had on Monday reported the implications of the situation, which leaves purchasers virtually at the mercy of the dealers. The Central Motor Vehicle Act states that a dealer should hand over possession of a new vehicle after registration.
Dealers say they are not interested in registering vehicles and handing over possession to purchasers. Their contention: Dealers didn’t seek introduction of the rule. They also state that they would be happy if the rule was amended.
L P Singhania, a retired bank official, says the rule is unfair. He says the buyer of a new vehicle is left with no choice. However, it is better to get the vehicle registered with the help of the dealer rather than stand at the RTO office for hours, he added.
