2 suicides drive ex-CMC chief into gloom
DH News Service, Bangalore:
A week after his daughter-in-law Archana was found dead under mysterious circumstances and three days after his son Vijaykumar committed suicide.

There appears to be no respite from tragedies for the family of former Bommanahalli CMC chief Krishnappa.
A week after his daughter-in-law Archana was found dead under mysterious circumstances and three days after his son Vijaykumar committed suicide, Krishnappa himself landed at Nimhans here on Tuesday allegedly with complaints of nervous breakdown.
Krishnappa was brought to Nimhans by his brother Venkatesh even as his son’s body was being taken for burial. In fact, Krishnappa’s relatives sought to divert the body to the Police Commissioner’s office.  They wanted to protest against police harassment.
Speaking to Deccan Herald, Venkatesh said: “Nearly a dozen of our relatives have been picked up by the police. Our vehicles have been seized and as a result, our businesses have come to a standstill. The police are still awaiting the post-mortem report. If Archana was murdered, then we are ready to face the music. But even before concluding that it is a case of murder, why are police going overboard and harassing us?”
Venkatesh attributed the police high-handedness to the pressure being applied by Archana's relatives. In the name of dowry, relatives are taking the entire system for a ride.
Meanwhile, Vijaykumar, who committed suicide on Monday, is supposed to have said in his suicide note that he be buried next to his wife.
However, the police persuaded Vijaykumar’s relatives to drop their plans in this regard and got them to cremate the body at the Wilson Garden crematorium.
Vijaykumar’s body bore scribbled messages, some of which appeared to have been made with a sharp instrument, reading: Archana I love you', I miss you, why did you do this to me and Honey I will be joining you.
Pointing at the scribblings in blood on Vijaykumar’s palms, legs, thighs and chest, Venkatesh said: “This is enough to prove how much he loved his wife. Three days before Archana’s death, both families had visited Bhavikonda-Gangamma temple. If there were differences, how can we travel together?” he asks.
It is also learnt Venkatesh had once tried to commit suicide in Udhagamandalam by jumping off a hotel terrace, but was stopped by the staff from doing so. He was taken to Eniya Hospital, where doctors declared he was mentally disturbed. Meanwhile, Narayanamma, Krishnappa’s wife who was in jail, was allowed to attend her son’s funeral.
