Siddaganga Mutt seer Sri Sri Shivakumar Swamiji of Tumkur, was admitted to Manipal Hospital on Tuesday morning with fever and chest infection.
The seer was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, Health Minister R Ashok and other political leaders and followers. The 100-year-old pontiff, who was conferred with the Karnataka Ratna on his 100th birthday in April this year, has been unwell for the past few days, Medical Director, Manipal Hospital Dr Nagendra Swamy told Deccan Herald. “His other parameters are normal and there’s absolutely no reason for concern. He is in a deluxe ward and is under the supervision of a medical team. We are keeping a close watch on him,” he added.
“The Swamiji needs rest. In the ashram he is flooded with visitors. We would like to keep him in the hospital for the next few days because of his age,” said Dr Swamy while adding that the seer has “remarkable” health even at this ripe age and does not suffer from any chronic disorders.
The doctors attending on the the Swamiji have requested his devotees to allow him to rest and avoid visiting him for the next few day.
However, the seer wants to return to mutt to be with his students. “We requested him to stay on. Even Swamiji of Suttur Mutt also requested him to stay in the hospital for a few days. In the evening former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, Home Minister M P Prakash, KPCC President Mallikarjun Kharge visited him,” said Dr Swamy.
“Former chief minister and Governor of Maharashtra, S M Krishna called up the hospital in the evening to enquire about his health,” he added. Mr Shivanna, minister of Sericulture, has stayed back in the hospital to be with the seer.
“Sri Sri Shivakumar Swamiji eats just one meal a day, in the morning, and takes some prasadam in the evening after his puja,” said the doctor.
