Lokayukta police raided the house and properties belonging to Dr R S Raikar and his wife Dr Anusuya Raikar on Monday night in the city and have seized immovable assets and cash valued at Rs 2 crore, which was disproportionate to their known sources of income.
The couple were serving as surgeons at District McGann Hospital. Dr Anusuya had opted for voluntary retirement while Dr Raikar is still in service. The couple own a nursing home, a farm house and Kamakshi Education Trust offering para medical courses in the city.
The Lokayukta team comprising 30 personnel including SP S B Bisnalli and eight inspectors raided at five places. An amount of Rs 57,000, 309 gram gold, 1.5 kg silver were also found in Dr Raikar’s house during the raid.
The couple have deposits in 27 bank accounts and a bank locker which are yet to be verified, sources said. When reports last came in, the raid was still on.
