In a rather generous move the Gulbarga University has sanctioned new post graduation courses to a number of private colleges from the current academic year 2007-08.
In all it has sanctioned Master of Social Work (MSW) course to nine colleges, Master of Education (MEd) course to eight colleges, MSc Biotechnology to three colleges and MSc Physics to one college.
This was disclosed at the academic council meeting of the University held here on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor B G Mulimani.
Affiliation approved
The Deans Committee had earlier approved affiliation of these new PG courses in the affiliated colleges. The number of seats sanctioned to different courses are: MSW-245; MEd-160; MSc Biotechnology-50; and MSc Physics-20.
The colleges getting new PG courses along with intake are as follows.
MSW Course:
Inamdar Education and Charitable Trust-30; Shankar Singh Memorial Trust Aryan MSW College-20 (both in Gulbarga); Satyam Educational Society-30; Sri Sai Trust’s National Institute of Human Sciences-30 (both in Bellary); Vidya Vikas Trust-30; Ambedkar Tatva Education Trust’s Shivakumar Kote MSW College-30 (both in Bidar); Vivekananda Rural Education Trust’s MSW College-30; Rural and Urban Development Society-30 (both in Raichur); Rural Development Technical Society-15, at Itagi in Koppal district.
MEd Course:
Reshmi Education Charitable Trust-20; Deccan Education Society-20 (both Gulbarga); Veerashaiva Vidya Vardhak Sangha-20; Ambedkar Tatva Education Trust-20; Karnataka Rashtriya Shikshana Samsthe-20 (all Bidar); HKDE Trust Shakuntala Patil MEd Centre-20 (Humnabad); Veerashaiva Samaj MEd College-20 (Raichur); Rajiv Gandhi Education Trust -20 (Koppal).
MSc Biotechnology:

The University has decided to fill up 50 per cent of intake allocated to private Colleges through the University as being done in Bangalore University.
The University will fix the seat matrix for the 50 per cent quota and will charge Rs 3,000 as possessing fee from each candidate. The applications for 50 per cent seats are to be called by the respective departments and allotment to be made by the departments based on the seat matrix and merit.
