Expressing his apprehension over the impediments in the development of agricultural sector, University of Agricultural Sciences (Bangalore) Vice-Chancellor Dr P G Chengappa said though India would achieve considerable progress in various fields, the development of farmers would not take place in an expected pace.
Speaking after receiving felicitation by various organisations at the Rotary Auditorium here on Tuesday, he said though technical, scientific and industrial sectors were galloping ahead, the agricultural sector had been witnessing a set back.
There have been a lot of hurdles in achieving a balance between farming and the remaining sectors. The chances of India importing food grains from foreign countries in the coming years cannot be brushed aside, he noted.
The VC advised the farmers to adopt advanced methods in agriculture. But, they should increase their income by spending less money. The Agricultural University is trying to take its inventions to the common man in this regard, he added.
Arameri Kalancheri mutt seer Shantamallikarjuna Swamiji, who felicitated the VC, said Dr Chengappa was a good instance to prove how a common man could achieve greater heights if he had the ambition of achieving the noblest goal. M K Poovaiah, S R Jagadish, B G Raghunath Nayak, M K Narayan Rao, N Gopalakrishna Kamat and Prince Somaiah were present.
