State Senior Power Lifting competitions for both men and women will be held under the aegis of Jeppu Sports Association at Town Hall in the City from June 22 to 24, informed Karnataka Power Lifting Association Secretary Sathish Kumar Kudroli.
Addressing a press meet here on Wednesday, he said the competition for men was being held for the 33rd consecutive year, while that of women was being conducted for the 25th year. Selection trials for boys and girls of sub-junior level will also be held on the occasion, he stated.
The competitions will be inaugurated by Surathkal MLA J Krishna Palemar at 5.30 pm on June 22, while former minister B Ramanath Rai will preside.
Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) Health and Social Justice Standing Committee former chairman Mahabala Marla, entrepreneur Prabhakar Yeyyadi and Mr Sathish Kumar Kudroli will be the chief guests.
The closing ceremony will be held at 5.30 pm on June 24, under the presidentship of MCC Commissioner Krishnappa Poojary. Ullal MLA U T Khader, Sports Promoters’ Club President A Sadanand Shetty will distribute trophies.
Former mayor Puradardas Kuloor, former corporator Premanand Shetty, entrepreneur Lokesh Bolar and Indian Power Lifting Association Vice-President M Krishnappa will take part, Mr Kumar said.
More than 250 competitors are expected to participate in the competitions. The winners will represent the State in the national level tourney to be held at Kollam in Kerala in August, he added. Jeppu Sports Association Working President Vinod Bolar was present.
