Girl ends life over fee burden
DH News Service, Bangalore:

A girl committed suicide by setting herself ablaze in Dayanandanagar in Srirampura police station limits on Thursday. According to family sources, Jayalakshmi (17), a student of a private college in Rajajinagar, had asked her parents for Rs 8,000 for admission to the second year.

Her father Manohar was a construction labourer and her mother a domestic help. Manohar said he would need some time. On Thursday, Jayalakshmi told him May 31 was the last date for the admission. Manohar promised he would arrange the amount by evening.

When her parents went to work, she locked herself from inside and set herself ablaze. Jayalakshmi’s sister, who was in the bathroom, came out, unlocked the door and cried for help. Neighbours rushed Jayalakshmi to Victoria Hospital, where she died later, sources said.
