Junoon, a restaurant recently launched at Marathalli, promises gourment diners an experience like never before. This theme-based restaurant offers authentic North Frontier cuisine in an extraordinary ambience reminiscent of the rich culture of the Mughals.
Junoon which means `passion’ in Urdu is a celebration of love, life, and tragedy. This theme-based restaurant offers most delectable dishes like meat roasted over a roaring fire, charcoal grilled kababs with a rich aroma and other barbecue specialities. `Sharabi Murg’ and `Nasheeli Chammpein’ are other delicacies available. An exciting concoction of martinis and exotic cocktails like ‘Sharmili’ and `Gulbadan’ can transport you to a different world. The listings on the menu too stand out and it is in the form of the punkah of good old days.
Visitors are greeted in polished Urdu by the bearers clad in Afghani attire. The interior hues of rich fuchsias, plums and electric blues with gold motifs are bound to leave anyone mesmerised. The tables, reminiscent of thrones, are arranged to create the ‘Diwan-e-aam’ as in a royal durbar. Music from Pakeezah and Mughal-e-Azam remind you of a bygone era.
Coloured ‘baithak’ with brick work on the gumbaz provide a private dining area for families wanting to spend some quality time together. Mirrored walls and period chandeliers provide flamboyance to the place.
Kapil Saigal, the proud owner of the successful Punjabi restaurant Chandini Chowk, and Reddy, who has 22 years experience in the liquor business are partners. Saigal, the brain behind the design, says, “Jalsa echoes a story lost in time. An evening spent here will be an enriching one as it will be filled with drama, music and great food.”
Junoon is one among the three theme-based restaurants planned inside Jalsa. The second, to be launched after three months is called ‘Ruh’ and the third will be opened much later. Those keen on enjoying the sumptuous fare on offer can step into No. 25, Outer Ring road, (next to Grand Mall), Dodane Kundi Village, Marathalli.
