8 hurt as police jeep overturns
Seven policemen and an undertrial were injured when the jeep in which they were travelling overturned near Bannadur Cross on Bangalore-Mysore highway late on Wednesday. The policemen were heading towards Ramanagaram to produce Jagadish, the undertrial, in the court.
He was produced in the court on Thursday by one of the injured policemen. Others were undergoing treatment at the government hospital.
Two killed in accidents
Two persons died in separate accidents on Thursday. Shanmugam (26), a Marathalli resident, died when the motorcycle on which he was riding pillion, collided with a truck near Babusapalya in Banaswadi police limits. Naveen Kumar, the rider, escaped with minor injuries.
In another incident, Peetambaram (61) was run over by an unidentified vehicle near HAL quarters in Indiranagar.
They ‘polish off’ her gold
A woman was conned into parting with her jewellery worth Rs 40,000 by two men posing as sales representatives in Halasur police station limits on Thursday.
In her complaint, Mashiba, of Old Madras Road, said two men gave her some powder for polishing gold jewellery and asked her to test it.
They put her jewellery in a box, mixed it with powder asked her to keep the box in a pressure cooker for sometime for best results. Mashiba, who followed their rules, later found only bricks and stones in the cooker!
Idol thieves arrested
Two persons were arrested on charges of stealing idols of Lord Shani worth Rs 6 lakh.
Altaf alias Syed Jaffer (20) and Anand (27) were caught while trying to sell the idols - Lord Shani, a chariot and a crow - to a scrap dealer in K G Halli.
These idols are made of gold, silver and alloy of bronze and copper.
They had stolen the idols from a temple in Tirumenahalli Cross on Bellary Road in Chikkajala police station limits.
5 held for gambling
High Grounds police arrested P Anand (32),of Viveknagar, K S Praveen (30), of Wilson Garden, M Venkatesh (30), of Guttahalli, R Muruganand (42) and G Velu (38), both from Srirampura, on charges of gambling and recovered five cars and Rs 5,100 in cash.
They were arrested near Bharatiya Seva Dal School in Sri Kanthaiah Layout while playing cards.
Copyright violation, 2 held
The Fraud and Misappropriation Squad of CCB and arrested two persons on charges of recording and selling multi-media memory chips in violation of the Copyright Act. The two are: C K Zubair (20), a resident of Jayanagar, and Shuli (19), of Tilaknagar. A computer, card-readers, charger-cum-power card CDs and multi-media memory chips worth Rs 55,000. Police raided Mass Mobile, and Mass Mobile & Electronics in Jayanagar and arrested them.
