Bangaloreans take cover as mercury levels dip
Bangalore, DH News Service:

Bangaloreans experienced a sudden chill on Thursday with temperatures dipping to 22.2 degrees Celsius. Denizens were seen taking out their pull-overs and raincoats as the City received moderate spells of rain.

Light showers saw motorists make a beeline to reach home as the evening peak hour traffic resulted in choked roads.

Meteorological department officials said the City recorded .09 mm of rain, which the department considers as light showers.

Metereology department director, Vijayaraghavan told Deccan Herald,  the light spells of rain was a result of depression formed in the Bay of Bengal.

“It is likely that Bangalore will witness heavy showers that may also lash parts of interior and north-interior Karnataka.

The morning depression on Thursday, intensified into deep depression in the East Arabian Sea by evening,” he said.

The monsoon set in the State on May 29 itself and covered most parts by June 13, he said.

Mr Vijayaraghavan added that the weak monsoon current had prevented the City from experiencing increase in density of showers.

“The next few days will see the City and interior parts of Karnataka experience showers with thunder storms at few places,” he said.

The department has in its weather forecast for Friday said, the City would be generally cloudy,  with spells of light rain and heavy at times.
