Bishop Cotton Boys’ School scored an emphatic six-wicket win over Frank Anthony Public School  in an under-17 tie in the Cottonian Shield cricket tournament at the Bishop Cotton school grounds on Thursday.

Batting first, Frank Anthony Public School made 144 for eight in the stipulated 30 overs, bolstered by S Abhijith’s knock of 87. Abhijith’s innings contained eight hits to the rope and one over it. For Bishop Cotton, the main wicket-takers were Ashwin (3/27) and Sharan (2/32).

Bishop Cotton coasted to victory with 22 balls to spare. The batting success comprised useful contributions from Dabeeth (42, 3x4), Samarth (38, 6x4) and Ashwin (33, 4x4, 1x6).

Later in the day, FAPS made up for their disappointing outing earlier, routing St John’s High School by nine wickets in another under-17 encounter.

St John’s were shot out for a meagre 88 in 21.4 overs. Abhijith took three for eight while Kunal picked up three wickets conceding just four runs. FAPS cruised home in 10.4 overs for the loss of just one wicket.
In the under-14 category, St Joseph’s Boys’ High School posted a comfortable 115-run victory over Clarence High School. Nirmal (79) led the batting chart as Joseph’s piled up 191 in 30 overs. Chiraaj (38) too chipped in with valuable runs.

Clarence had no answer to Nirmal’s terrific bowling (7/30) and were all out for 76.

Another tie in the same category saw FAPS script an eight-wicket win over St John’s. Karthick and Rishabh took three wickets apiece to restrict St John’s to 111. An unbeaten 43 by Gowda ensured that FAPS reached the target without much trouble.
