Tension prevailed for some time at Sampige theatre in Malleswaram on Friday when a section of the audience broke window panes and furniture when the sound system developed a technical problem. Police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
The screening of Ganesh-starrer Cheluvina Chittara was stalled for a few minutes following the incident. Malleswaram police arrested five persons in this connection. They are: Shivashankar (29), a resident of Dasarahalli, Manjunath (17) and Jayaram (19), both from Malleswaram, Suhas (18), of Sanjaynagar, and Rakesh (17), of Palace Guttahalli.
The show began at 10.30 am. Around 11.30 am, the sound system developed a technical snag. Irked by the same, some started shouting, while a gang of five came out and started breaking window panes and ransacking furniture.
Theatre manager M B Kushalappa told Deccan Herald, “We surrounded the five when they tried to damage the screen. We handed them over to the police. Property worth Rs 50,000 has been damaged.”
Later, police provided security to the theatre. The sound system was repaired and other shows ran as usual.
This is the second such incident in the recent past. Some members of the audience had ransacked furniture and broke window panes of Aparna theatre which was screening Hudugata, a Kannada movie. Interestingly, that movie too had starred Ganesh and the same problem had triggered the incident.
