The Academic Council of Bangalore University (BU) on Friday approved a steep hike in revaluation (RV) fees for undergraduate courses and gave its consent for revised regulations for Challenge Valuation (CV) for post-degree examinations.
The Council accepted the recommendations of a committee of deans constituted to address the problems related to revaluation and challenge valuation regulations.
As the per the committee’s recommendations, marks will be revised only if the difference between the original valuation and revaluation is less or more than five.
Students now even stand to lose marks if their revaluation score is less than in the original valuation. The existing regulations gave advantage for higher marks to the student, that is higher marks in the main valuation or revaluation, whichever is higher.
While minimum marks for applying for revaluation and challenge valuation has been retained at 15 per cent of the total marks of the paper concerned, a new clause provides exemption to candidates who have secured 50 per cent in the aggregate of all other papers.
“This is a new provision introduced to give relief to candidates who have scored good marks in all papers but in one or two papers where they are awarded very low marks”, BU Vice-Chancellor H A Ranganath said.
The Council resolved that revaluation results should be announced within three months.
Revised
It approved a revised fee structure for issue of photocopies of answer scripts and revaluation fees for various under-graduate courses. The revised fees for issue of photocopy is Rs 1,000 per answerscripts (existing fees is Rs 750).

The existing rate of Rs 1,000 for challenge valuation per paper for post-graduate courses has been retained.
Applications for RV and CV need to be made within 15 days after the announcement of results.
