Heavy rains lashed several parts of Hyderabad Karnataka region causing widespread damage and throwing life out of gear at many places.
As many as 7 people, including an infant, died due to house collapse following heavy rains, on Saturday, in the district.
With this the number of deaths in the district due to rain has gone up to 10. Hanumanthi (25) and her 3 month old child Mahalakshmi, her son Narasimha (3), niece Tayamma (2) died in Kallur, Manvi taluk.
Her brother Narasimha and his wife Lakshmi are injured and are hospitalised. Sunil (12) and Vinaya(5) died in Maktalpet, Raichur.
In Gonavar village, Sindhanur taluk, one Iramma died. Three persons were reported dead to lightning In Devadurga taluk on Thursday.
An elderly man died when he touched an electric poll while taking support in heavy rains. He is identified as Gurappa Polappa Kumbara (70).
In Chincholi 5 baffowloes died due to lightning.
Bridge collapse
Maski dam is full to capacity and all the four gates are open. A bridge is washed away in the gushing water and the Gulbarag-Bangalore road is closed. Maski has turned into an island. In Gandhinagar more than 150 houses are inundated and people are accommodated in travellers’ bungalow and school, colleges.

In Bagalkot, six people killed at Chikkalaki village have been identified as Geeta Paramananda Sanadi (25), Srushti P Sanadi (3), Srinivas Bheemappa Dalwai (10), and Srikant Bheemappa Dalwai (8). Two killed at Hallur village were identified as Srishaila Mallappa Talwar (4), and Mallamma Mallappa Talwar (6).
More than 15-20 houses have collapsed in the village. Revenue Department machinery was on full alert in shifting the affected families to safer places. In Hungund taluk, rain water entered several houses and as many as 500 sheep were washed in Kadigihalla Cross and Nagur Cross.
Farmers happy
Gulbarga district farmers are smiling as the much awaited rains came pouring down bringing hopes of good crops. By June 20, more than 16 per cent of farming area in the district was sown.
Farmers had readied the land for sowing and for the past ten days absence of rains was beginning to cause concern. However, from past three days, continuous rains has brought relief to farmers.
The district has received 60 mm rains, with the highest rainfall of 216 mm recorded in Shahapur. Shahapur reported collapse of 450 houses. Ten sheep were washed away.
Yadagiri recorded 118 mm, followed by Surpur 92 mm, Jevargi 40 mm, and Chittapur 37 mm.
The Agriculture Department officials told Deccan Herald that if the rains give way for 3 or 4 days brisk sowing will be taken up.
The shortage of seeds experienced by the farmers is being taken care of by the officials who are procuring seeds from several outlets to be distributed in the district.
Godown flooded
Food and Civil Supplies godown in Yadagiri was flooded and an estimated Rs 10 lakh worth food grains were damaged.
In Bidar, life is disrupted due to continuous rains since three days. Power supply has been cut off due to polls falling and wires being cut. Even telephone lines have gone dead.
In Balki, several low lying areas were inundated. However no loss of life was reported. In Jevargi 35 houses are inundated. In Malli village four families have been shifted to safer places at a government primary school and are given food.
In Mudhol, Yalaburga taluk, a woman was killed when she was caught under land slide. She is identfied as Sharanamma. Other three are injured.
