The suspension of Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan and state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan from Polit Bureau, elections to the posts of President and Vice President and the economic policies of the UPA Government would be taken up for discussion at the CPM’s Central Committee meeting starting here from Sunday.
The politbureau’s decision to suspend the two leaders would be considered by the Central Committee, which would also review the UPA government’s economic measures like price rise, weakening of the public distribution system and pension fund.
The three-day meet of the Central Committee, which would follow a session of the Polit Bureau on Sunday, would also debate the developments on the Indo-US nuclear cooperation agreement in the context of the Hyde Act, which it has described as “unacceptable”.
On the suspension of the two top Kerala leaders from the Polit Bureau, the CPM had last month sent a strong signal to the state unit to put an end to the factional squabbles.
Achuthanandan and Vijayan, who were suspended on charges of violating the party norms by airing differences in public, were however, asked to continue on their posts. The move came a year after the LDF government came to power in Kerala.
