ATHLETICS / Asian GP second leg
Indians have a field day
Guwahati, Agencies:
Indian athletes bagged a rich haul of eight golds, six silvers and four bronze in the second leg of the sixth Asian Athletic Grand Prix 2007 at the Indira Gandhi stadium here on Saturday.

Indian athletes bagged a rich haul of eight golds, six silvers and four bronze in the second leg of the sixth Asian Athletic Grand Prix 2007 at the Indira Gandhi stadium here on Saturday.
However, Anju Bobby George failed to book a berth for the forthcoming Osaka World Championshi after coming up with a below-par show in the long jump event. The best jump Anju could come up with was 6.28 metres.
Anju still has the Pune leg of the Asian Grand Prix as well as other European circuits to make it into the World Championships as qualifying is open till August 13.
Anju’s best of 6.28M came in her fourth attempt. However, it was much less than her personal best (6.83 at Athens Olympics) as well as the Osaka qualifying mark (6.6m).
Chitra Soman won the gold in the 400M clocking 53.01 sec, while Sinimol Paulose triumphed in the 1500M in 4:15.53 seconds.
In the women’s high jump and men’s 3000M, India completed a 1-2 with Susmitha Singh Roy and Sahana Kumari and Surendra Singh and Sunil Kumar occupying the first two slots.
Hari Shankar Roy in the men’s high jump and Anuj Bora in the women’s triple jump and Gurpreet Kaur in javelin throw won the other golds for India.
Karnataka’s Vikas Gowda won the silver in the men’s discus throw event.
